Very Low-Calorie Ketogenic Diet (VLCKD)

An antihypertensive nutritional approach.  Obesity is accompanied by hormonal, inflammatory and endothelial (blood vessel lining) alterations.  These alterations lead to a cascade of events that increase blood pressure (BP) and worsen cardiovascular events.  This study aimed to evaluate the use of a ketogenic diet on BP in women with obesity and hypertension.  Over the course of just 35 days they evaluated BP in addition to waist circumference and body composition and saw a reduction in all parameters.
