Estradiol (E2) and Breast Cancer Risk.

This study compared placebo vs E2 plus MPA vs E2 plus micronized progesterone with regard to risk markers for breast cancer in postmenopausal monkeys E2 + MPA led to greater breast proliferation in lobular and ductal epithelium while E2 + progesterone did not. Breast cancer risk increased with E2 + the progestin but not with progesterone!! Wood CE, Register TC, Lees CJ, et al.
