The Role of hippocampal estradiol in synaptic plasticity and Memory: A systematic review. We conclude that estradiol improves memory consolidation and , thereby, long term memory. There appears to be several interactions further supporting a role for estradiol (estrogen) in modulating synaptic plasticity (memory formation).
